Who should apply for a USDOT Number?
- Businesses utilizing commercial vehicles above 10,000 lbs. that journey across state borders
- Businesses engaged in transporting 8 or more passengers (driver included) for payment
- Businesses involved in transporting 15 or more passengers (driver included) regardless of payment
- Businesses engaged in transporting dangerous materials.
UCR
Who is required to enroll in UCR?
- Motor carriers (both public and private)
- Private motor carriers
- Leasing firms
- Freight forwarders
- Brokers situated in the United States, Mexico, or Canada, or companies engaged in international and/or interstate commerce involving the USA.
BOC – 3 Filing
Out of Business Notification
A U.S. DOT Number is necessary if:
- The gross weight rating of your vehicles is 10,000 pounds or higher (this pertains to the combined weight of vehicles, including both the vehicle and trailer)
- Your vehicles are utilized for the profitable transportation of 8 individuals or more (including the driver)
- Your vehicles are used for the non-profit transportation of 16 individuals or more (including the driver)
- You are engaged in the transportation of hazardous materials (HazMat).
